We are thirteen days into the new year. You may have set some health and fitness goals at the start of the year as you should have! Now make sure you keep those goals where you can see them every day. Hopefully you have a short term goal that you are aiming towards at the end of the month. This is what is going to keep you motivated to keep moving forward towards your long term goal. Then you should have a daily action plan to get you one step closer to those goals each and every day.

It can be overwhelming, knowing what workouts to do and how often to do them. Should you be doing strength training or more cardio? Then nutrition comes in. You know nutrition is 80% of the battle. What do you need to be eating when it comes to reaching your goals? Do you need more protein, more healthy fats or carbohydrates? What is going to work best for your goals.

And, don’t forget about recovery and mindset. Those are also other key areas to focus on to help you succeed.

There really is no one size fits all approach when it comes to fitness and nutrition. Your nutrition and your workouts will vary depending if you are looking to gain muscle or lose weight.

If you feel overwhelmed being locked down and you are trying to figure out where to start, then focus on today. What is the one thing you need to do today to get you closer to your goal? It may be a workout or it may be eating more vegetables with your meals. It may be increasing your water intake. Today, change one thing that will help you get closer to where you want to be. Do not try changing five things at once or trying to workout and eat four salads a day. This will not be maintainable long-term.

Tomorrow decide what is going to get you even closer to your goal. If you ate vegetables twice yesterday great! Do that again today and then get a workout in. Then add another step the next day. These small changes will build over time and will produce great results. It will take time, it will take patience and it will take consistency. You don’t have to be perfect you just need to win the day!

How are you going to win each day? Is it getting your morning workout in? Is it changing one eating habit each week and sticking to that habit daily? Remember that change takes time and it doesn’t happen overnight. Take a look at anyone who inspires you in fitness and health. Ask them how long they have been at it. I guarantee it has been much longer than sixty or ninety days.

Now go out and win the day!

If you are not sure where to start then start with movement. Get thirty minutes of activity in today. Then tomorrow aim to eat vegetables with two meals and you can build from here. If you already have a solid foundation and need more advanced changes then start with something such as eating a vegetable or fruit this week that you may have never thought of buying before, or aiming to get a rainbow of colours of veggies in each day.
