I read a quote in a book the other day. “Choose the pain of regret or the pain of discipline”. This holds true in the fact that many people want to be fit healthy and maybe look a certain way but do not realize the discipline it takes. What we need to realize is other people did not get fit and and have six pack abs by living a comfortable lifestyle.

We always see the tip of the iceberg and how a person looks or how much energy they have. What we don’t see is what their daily routine looks like. I bet you they are not sleeping in until 8 am and staying up late snacking on chips. What we don’t see is the discipline people have outside of the times we see them. You must be disciplined in working out consistently and eating well the majority of the time. You must sacrifice time to workout which means time away from friends or family for an hour each day. You may have to sacrifice those snacks you love eating daily and eat them only once in a while.

It is not easy to be disciplined. That is why only a percentage of people see great results because not everyone can stay disciplined. This goes back to setting your mindset and environment up for success. More on that here.

On the other hand, there is regret. The pain of regret. Many people wish they may have done things differently or tried new things when they had the chance. This is something you must live with. You may regret not starting a fitness routine or not eating better a year ago because you could have been in a great place right now. You may regret not taking a job you would have loved over a job that offered more money but wasn’t as enjoyable.

No matter which route you choose you will have to live with the consequences. Do you want it to be the pain of regret and wishing you should have done or tried something. Or, would you rather go through the pain of being disciplined and reap the rewards that come with it.

There is no right or wrong answer, it just comes down to how you wish to live your life.
