In April of 2013 I was unemployed for the first time since I started working in high school. I had just left a personal training position working for a small private gym where I was over worked and under paid. The time had come and it was time to move on. I started off working in a big box gym “GoodLife” for three years where I trained one on one clients and obtained my cycling certification to teach classes. Being a runner in high school led me to try a duathlon on St. Joe’s Island. After my first race I fell in love with it.

I started to love biking so I had always heard about “spin classes” and thought that would be a great option to keep my cycling up over the winter months. So I worked up enough nerve to sign up for a semester of classes during university. Luckily, I had the most experienced instructor and fell in love with the sweat and adrenaline filled workout.

When I returned home to the Sault and started my personal training position, I got certified and starting teaching cycling classes. I loved it and I loved being able to coach and push others to their limits.

After three years I left this gym and went to the next I also lost the cycling portion. I missed the workout and it was always in the back of my mind that our city needed a small studio that provided a personal cycling experience just like larger cities such as Toronto already had.

So, when I left this gym in April 2013, about a week later after having all my clients ask me where I was going and what am I doing, I found a space through a friend of the family. I wanted to keep coaching and keep helping these people. It was my duty to keep them going and not leave them stranded. So I checked out the space, it was small but perfect for personal training and small groups. So I decided to take it and get started.

A week later we had painted and had flooring down. It took about two weeks until I opened up what would be RAM Fitness and Cycling Studio, is what I registered my business name as because I knew that was the next thing coming. I continued to serve my current clients and welcomed new members as well. My goal at the time was to be able to show people that they are capable of doing much more than they think they are. That you can start from any point in your health and life.

The ultimate goal was to have personal training, group training and indoor cycling. I believed and still believe for many this is a winning combination when it comes to fitness. The prefect balance of strength training and cardio to get you into peak physical condition. In December of 2013 that dream became a reality as we opened up the cycling studio. When I look back now I was not ready for this. I thought I was but from what I have learned in just this past year we could have provided a much better service and experience. But we have learned and changed our gym so that we can help people more than ever now.

Our goal is to help 1000 people a become better each year. Whether that be by exercise, nutrition, emails, online coaching, social media content or blog posts we are here to help people and inspire you to create your best self-every day.

We will know our job is complete when our clients send their children to us and when their children send their children to us. We will then know we have had an impact one person that will compound into two then three and so on.

Our mission is to help 1000 people a year become the best version of themselves through fitness, nutrition and mindset. We will do this by providing an environment that is positive, upbeat, motivating and driven by purpose to do so.

We hope to see you all back at the gym soon!
